CLAIM at the #EMD2019 in Lisbon

CLAIM at the #EMD2019 in Lisbon

Focused on finding solutions for cleaner seas, CLAIM took part at the largest EU event on the topic – the European Maritime Day 2019 held last May 16-17th in Lisbon, Portugal. The European Maritime Day (EMD) is an annual two-day event during which Europe’s maritime community meet to network, discuss and forge joint action. This year’s topic was particularly close to CLAIM, focusing on blue entrepreneurship, research, innovation and investment to boost sustainable technologies and emerging value chains in the wider ocean economy.

The focal point of CLAIM’s participation was a  a workshop, co-organised with AQUA-LIT, which aimed at defining the existing gaps, barriers, potential solutions, and business and innovation opportunities, for the prevention and reduction, mapping and quantification, recovery and transformation of marine litter.

The workshop was split in two parts: introductory presentations by key speakers and a role game with participant, where they had the chance to step in the shoes of different stakeholders and look for solutions and ideas in key steps of the marine litter life-cycle. More on the results from this exercise is available via AQUA-LIT’s detailed report here.

The workshop “MARINE LITTER: GAPS, BARRIERS, SOLUTIONS & INNOVATION” was broadcast live on Twitter and Facebook and recordings are still available for those who’ve missed the event:
